I paid less than $7.00 dollars for this item, and it has revolutionized my wire work—seriously. The components are plastic, yet I have used up to 16 gauge copper wire with absolutely no trouble. It enables a person to make matching earring base forms in mere minutes, a task that previously took a good deal of time, especially as I am such a perfectionist. Each mandrel is created so that the bottom piece can be shared between the four mandrels. I wish that piece were flat-bottomed, but that is just my personal preference. I have numbered the steps on each mandrel to make it easier to keep track of the step I am using, especially when I am making matching components. The mandrels also make it easy to wire wrap your loops, as they provide a base to work against as you twist the wire. I thought that the plastic might be too flimsy to hold up to the tension I was placing on it as I wrapped the wire, but to date, I have had no issues. It’s a great item for a great price!
